Bose ended SoundTouch cloud on 6 May 2026 (slipped from 18 Feb). Presets, in-app music services, stereo pairing, and Alexa died. Local Bluetooth/AirPlay leftovers are not the product they sold.

Belkin shut the Wemo cloud and app on 31 Jan 2026. Alexa/Google remote access died. Only Thread/HomeKit units pre-paired kept local control. Everyone else got a dumb switch.

Humane sold Cosmos to HP and bricked the $699 Ai Pin on 28 Feb 2025. Calls, AI, cellular, .Center — gone. Offline battery percentage remained. Hardware was 10 months old.

Spotify shut Car Thing three years after launch. A $90 (later $50) car player became a brick unless you jailbreak the Amlogic board.

Meta stopped Quest 1 security patches on 31 Aug 2024 after killing new store apps in Apr 2024 and features in 2023. A 2019 headset they still sold used became a malware target with a shrinking catalog.

Google retired Fitbit Ionic on 31 Jul 2024. Watch faces, GPS apps, and payments died. The SoC still ran. The product did not.

Sonos shipped a rewritten app in May 2024 that stripped alarms, timers, queue edits, and household controls from working S2 speakers. Hardware did not fail. Software took the product back.

Google ended Nest Secure on 8 Apr 2024. Guard and Detect became inert. No local-only alarm mode.

Chamberlain cut 'unauthorized' myQ APIs in Oct 2023. Home Assistant and Homebridge died. Official HomeKit hub was already discontinued. A garage opener you bought now only talks to their app and paid partners.

Google pushed Pixel 4a updates in 2023 that capped charge and clocked the SoC after battery-swelling reports. A phone they still listed got slower without a clear opt-out at first. Later: replacement program.

Amazon killed Halo Band, View, and Rise on 1 Aug 2023. The app and body-scan cloud died. Refunds for 12-month purchases were the consolation prize for a wearable they launched in 2020.

Arlo pulled included cloud recording the cameras shipped with. Person detection and history became a subscription. The silicon did not change.

Nintendo closed 3DS and Wii U eShops on 27 Mar 2023. Hardware still plays discs/carts. The store you paid into, and digital purchases' storefront, ended while the SoC worked.

Google shut Stadia on 18 Jan 2023. Premiere Edition kits and Founder controllers lost the service they were sold for. Bluetooth leftover is not Stadia.

Meta killed Portal hardware in Nov 2022. Video-call slabs that only lived on Facebook's cloud were left on a winding support clock.

Wyze moved person detection, longer clips, and AI off the hardware you bought and onto Cam Plus. v1/v2 firmware also locked features that were on the box in 2018-2020.

Insteon servers went dark overnight in Apr 2022. Hubs and switches that had worked for years failed until a later revival. Cloud was a single point of death.

Tuya/Smart Life plugs only live while Tuya's brokers do. ESP units can often flash Tasmota if the bootloader is still open; later BK chips lock it. Ongoing 2022–2026 risk, not a 2013 relic.

Logitech killed Harmony in Apr 2021. Remaining hubs still lean on a shrinking IR/cloud database with no successor. Death clock, not a clean local IR editor.
